Service Description

We are excited to announce a special workshop led by Margaret Pittenger, PT, in partnership with Living and Dying Awake. This workshop is an exploration of centering yourself in the presence of someone experiencing physical or emotional pain or unrest, an invaluable practice in the experience of death (and life). AUGUST 17, Saturday 12pm - 5pm $110 Shades Valley Lutheran Church, Shades Creek Parkway, Birmingham, AL, USA In this workshop you will learn: To understand the physiology of pain and stress. Techniques to regulate your breath and change your body's state. How to build personal awareness and confidence in emotional situations. Ways to manage your emotions and nervous system effectively. Who It’s For: This workshop is designed for death doulas and anyone working with end-of-life care. However, it is suitable for anyone seeking to build their confidence and understanding of their nervous system and emotional regulation in uncomfortable settings. All are welcome. What you will gain: Participants will leave with a deeper sense of personal awareness and a greater understanding of who they are. You'll gain practical tools to help you stay centered and calm in the presence of suffering, ultimately improving your ability to support others. When we stay centered and grounded in the presence of another's suffering and pain, our own self-regulation positively influences the entire situation. What to Wear & Bring: Comfort: Some activities will involve lying on the floor. Please bring a blanket or two, a pillow, and anything else you need to be comfortable. Clothing: Wear comfortable clothing you can move easily in. The room will be air-conditioned, and your temperature may fluctuate during breathwork exercises. Plan on layers. Refreshments: Drinks and snacks will be provided. This workshop is a collaboration between Margaret Pittenger, PT and Living & Dying Awake, supporting Birmingham Community Collective and our mission to foster a community that embraces transitions while encouraging conversations about death, dying and grief.
